The Next BIG thing!! PINteresting

Oh my GOODNESS!!!!  I cant’t tell you how many waking hours I have spent in the last week awaiting my Pinterest Invitation!!  Seriously, Im not embarrased to admit, that I became a little obsessed!! Before you say..”Whats Pinterest??”  let me back up a minute..( and see the very bottom of this post to get a NO wait invite to Pinterest)
A few weeks ago, my good friend Merry, over at Designologyinteriors, did a great post on Houzz, which is an amazing website that allows you to create Idea boards by selecting photos from a HUGE library on their shared data base( meaning designers and others, post pics, and you can pull from them, or post your own) !! I had never heard of it before, and I spent hours and hours on this site, and loved every minute of it! Then, I started hearing ramblings of a website called Pinterest…With all of the many social networks we are connected to, and all of the design blogs I follow, I heard about it enough, that is totally peaked my interest. ( BEWARE: once you start looking at either one of these sites, you will lose hours of your life, and not even realize it, kind of like when you are looking at Etsy!)
SO what is it exactly?? In its simplest terms..its a site that allows you to visually catalog the things you love!

The greatest thing about Pinterest, is you can simply install a tiny little  “Pin it” button on your browsers “Favorites” bar, and ANY website you go on, anything at all, you can click on a picture, Pin it, and it will go directly to whatever inspiration board you want it to go to, it saves the link, and not only do you have an amazing online catalog or, wish list, as I love to call it, you also have the exact link and information for where it came from!!!

What you end up with, is an ever growing photo journal of all things that you LOVE!! It can be food, it can be Jewelry, Wine, Makeup, Clothes, Art, People..anything…that is what I love about this. I have a mood board called INSPIRE ME, that showcases all thing that I think are amazing..take a minute to look at it, so you can get a clearer (is that a word, Clearer?? or do you say..more clear? anyway)  picture of what I am talking about.
The  link for my INSPIRE ME board on Pinterest is
This is an invite only website, ( other members can invite you, or you can await an approval after submitting a request) which, made me INSANE, back to my original statement of ” I became slightly obsessed”…as I heard more and more about Pinterest, and how amazing it was, and submitted my invite request, then waited, and waited…and heard more and more about the awesomeness that I was missing out on..imagine, ME a blogger on all things Design NOT getting a invitation approval ( okay it was like 3 days, but STILL):)
I’m slightly joking, but I will say, by having to wait for an invite, it made me want it more! After tweeting for help, I actually got an invite from the blog, Younghouselove..ahhh Finally..The whole point of this loooooong explanation is: I wrote to the communications director at Pinterest and simply asked if I could please have MANY invites just to pass out to my readers so they didn’t have to wait…she said , “GLADLY”!!!!
SO, readers!! All you have to do is  LEAVE ME A COMMENT letting me know you would like an invite, and I will email a NO WAIT,  INVITE to you!! leave me your email address ( if you aren’t comfortable leaving it on the comment display, you can email me directly at I’m telling you, people are going crazy over these invites, just search it on google…SO, happy Pinning, wishing you many endless hours of pining beauty!!

Matchbox Magnets…

So I am not the BEST DIY’R….as time has gone by, I have seen so many great and inspiring things as an Interior Designer that I think “hey, I could do that and for a lot less”…Unfortunately, I have zero patience, so I either start a project ( go straight to Home Depot, buy ALL the boards, pick out the perfect paint….fast forward 5 yrs later…paint still sitting in basement with boards stacked next to it..sigh) or, I try it, and I fail miserably!! SO when I saw this little project on “How About Orange” I thought, “This is so cute, and wouldn’t it be adorable if I took all of the extra photos I have laying around of my family, and made them into magnets for Liam”!!
In short, doing the photo magnets WAS TERRIBLE!!! the ink ran, the pictures curled, and the self adhesive magnets did not adhere…I was so disappointed, but I thought, lets try it again…because of my above mentioned lack of patience, I cut the pics by hand ( a rookie DIY’R no, no..always use a straight edge people!!) so I was looking in my junk drawer for my straight edge to begin this project again, when I saw all of our Match boxes that my husband and I are OBSESSED with collecting…by the way, funny side story, for whatever reason, even though match boxes are FREE at every restaurant that you go to, my husband and I think we are being sneaky when we EACH take a matchbox as we leave, thinking in some weird way HA! we duped you ( WOW and who uses the word duped??) we have 2 FREE matchboxes!! ahhhhhh..anyway moving on…I thought HOW CUTE would these be as magnets!!! SO take a look at how my photo magnet project turned into my awesome match box magnet project ( PS…and because we have two of almost every match box, I wasn’t afraid to dive in!)

First, I found a few of my favorite matchbox/toothpicks and made sure we had doubles, just in case this turned into a disaster!

Next I traced each one on cardboard ( just a little tip for those of you that might want to try, I would use black foam core board next time, just for a little more height) and glued it to the back of each matchbox.
I used Ink Essentials, Glossy accent dimensional glue ( Michael’s $6.99) to cover each matchbox, starting around the edges, and then filling in the center, the added a strip of self adhesive magnet to ea back..
(whole role $4.99 at Michael’s)
Can you see the raised Glossy film, I think the Jazz Standard is hard to see, so I took Elvis outside for a little better light?? SO exciting! Here is the worst part of this hole project…The bottle of dimensional glue says it need 1/2 hour to 24 hours to dry… deep in my DIY-R soul, I know these little babies need the full 24 hours, because I used a ton. BUT because, as I mentioned above, I have ZERO patience ( although I am working on it) I grabbed one of the tiny matchbox jewels and slapped that puppy on my fridge to see what it was going to look like!!! AND I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!  This one was the least wet, but the others are still far from dry…I can’t wait to see them all together!!

I’m so excited that this fun project worked out!! and now when we look at our fridge, we will see little reminders of great nights/days/lunches/drinks we shared with family and friends!!
To see the complete set of 4, check my facebook page tomorrow night at
See, I told you I was working on it..I am going to allow the other 3 to dry properly 😉
Let me know if any of you try this little project! I would love to see finished results!!

It worked!! It really worked!!

Well…I am SO excited with how our “Easter Egg Dye made from food” came out!!!!! (look at yesterdays post here) I did have high hopes, but there was a little tiny piece of me that thought….hmmmm should I have the good ole fashion color discs on hand just in case this blows..well it didn’t blow, and they turned out so pretty !!

I decided to do Cherry Jello, Orange Jello, Turmeric, and Blueberries…I bought the beets, and had the paprika, but already had those colors with the blueberries and the jello…so here are a few of our pics from this adventure in Easter Egg Coloring!! Happy Holidays!
I was so impressed with the intensity of the Turmeric coloring!

Smelling this Jello boiling brought me right back to being a kid.
I had “L” help me smash up the Blueberries before we boiled them, it wasn’t necessary, but I knew he would love doing it, and I knew I could get some super cute pics of him for his scrap book!
He loved it!
And hhheeeeerreee  they are!!!  Our beautiful non-toxic Easter Eggs!!
I can’t believe how the color turned out!!
I’m so excited about our new family tradition!!
