I’m pretty sure that the whole nation watched in horror, at the videos that finally came out showing the devastation that Sandy brought.
Being a New Yorker ( yes, a Michigan transplant but STILL, we have lived here 8 years) we watched in shock as we saw the places that we have spent summers, and areas where families of friends once lived, completely gone. We have friends right now, still with out power. We have lines outside of gas stations that are three hours long because there is a gas shortage. We have friends and families of friends that lost EVERYTHING. Take a minute to feel what that must be like. Just wanting to go home, but you have no home to go to. We have a Mayor who FINALLY made the right decision ( although MUCH too late) to cancel the New York City Marathon…but MOST IMPORTANTLY, we have neighbors, having dinner together. We have complete strangers delivering food and diapers to mamas with babies. We have co-workers inviting others that they work with, to live with them until all is figured out. Its amazing the closeness a community gains from tragedy. I’m proud of our community, and the communities around us, for standing strong together even in the weakest moments. <3
