The Golden Pumpkin: DIY

September 24, 2012 Comments : 7

HAPPY FALL!!!! I decided to get a few small pumpkins this year to paint. Last year I saw all the crafty genius’s on pinterest and wanted to try my hand at it…the only difference..I let my 3 year old pick the colors. He picked a mintish greenish blueish and Gold..I have to say, I LOVE the combo and was super excited to get started!!
My inspiration actually started with A Pottery Barn candle (and have to admit, I knew Liam would pick the Gold paint,  I made a big deal out of it..cause I wanted at least one Gold pumpkin) it was super easy!!

What I used:

Gold Paint – I used Martha Stewart Craft Paint
Minty Green Paint
Sponge Brush
Paint Brush
Painters Tape
Round Stickers
Paper/Sheet to put under pumpkins to dry

Liam started on the Gold, and I started on the mint green ( Not sure why, but it looks light blue in the pics!)

Next, I started on the Mint Green Pumpkin…
I used the sponge brush to add Gold Detail

Have I mentioned how much a LOVE Instagram??
Almost done!! We had one little pumpkin left, and I decided I was going to try to do both colors, with polka dots of Gold Glitter…it didn’t turn out that way. I have A 3 year old, who was determined to put Glitter on the entire pumpkin..SO, I threw Blogging and Pinterest re-pin hopes to the wind, and continued on as a mama who loves to see her baby be creative…
Step One: Tape off pumpkin
Step Two: Use whatever round stickers you have laying around…these happen to come free with a free copy of Highlights ( children’s mag)
Step Three: Get Three yr old to paint the whole thing 🙂
Explain to three year old that we aren’t doing the “Sprinkles” just yet..

 Liam couldn’t wait  so….

Step Four: Glitter it up!
Step Five: Take a moment to enjoy your life
(No, seriously, this is really a step in Painting Pumpkins, I swear)
Step Six: Take off all tape and stickers.
Step Seven: Paint all orange parts, then paint them again, and then again!! ( it was a mess, and you can see by this picture, I had many more coats to go, to cover up all the orange!

Finally, sit back and enjoy your finished little Pumpkins 🙂 I was really happy with the way they turned out!! How about you? are you going with traditional carving? or maybe a funky metallic?? I would love to hear from you!!
