"It’s A Spring Thing" Bar Makeover!

March 26, 2013 Comments : 4

Its finally my turn and I am so excited to share!!! When March began, I joined an amazing group of 3 other bloggers for
“It’s a Spring Thing Blog Hop”!  We each took a Tuesday in March to bring to you, a spring project that we have taken on! I am the last to go, and I could not be happier with how everything turned out!!
Check out the awesome projects of Emily, Roeshel and Lana!!

I hope you all take a moment to link up your spring projects!! Everything goes!! Recipes, Pinterest Boards ( just be sure to copy the URL) DIY projects or just Spring Inspiration!! Once you all link up, the 4 of us will be choosing our favorites and announcing them in an April re-cap!!

For those of you who don’t know this blog ( HI!! thanks for reading today!!) My husband and I packed up our 3.5 yr old son, and moved from New York to Nashville right after Christmas! We are renting a house, and finding ways to upgrade, without spending a lot of money!! One of the things we have been dying to tackle is this Ikea Storage unit that my dad gave us. We use it as a “Bar”. Light wood really isn’t our style, so I was super excited when Lana invited me to be a part of this fun blog hop!! The bar was the first thing that came to mind! We love being social, and love our new home, so we cant WAIT to have spring parties!!

I knew right away that I wanted to add a pop of color to the inside, but wanted to stay pretty neutral on the outside. But FIRST, I had to dis-assemble. This was the easiest part. I started this project when it was 74 degrees and sunny outside. Little did I know, Nashville was about to be hit with a windy cold blowing storm that would last a full week..more on that later. On to dis-assembly.

Off with the Doors, and the drawers !
TIP: Make sure to put all hardware in one place, a small Rubbermaid box works perfect, that way you don’t lose anything, and its all in one place.
Next, it was time to tape everything off. I have no patience. I’m not kidding. Being diligent about taping is so important, especially when spray painting, but its no fun. Also, I used 200 grit sand paper to rough up the surface, to make sure the paint stuck.
This is where the weather began to get windy. I didn’t care, I was PUSHING through. I decided on Green for the inside and Grey for the outside! and now is a great time to mention that I started out with a leading brand of spray paint, that turned out to be HORRIBLE! luckily, I was able to find coordinating
Rust-Oleum colors, and I will never use anything else! It went on so easily!

I had begun the first pieces, when the wind picked up to 40 mph, and then, the rain came, and came…and came…Fast forward to this past weekend. Thank GOD my husband works for a high end street rod shop, We took all the pieces to their blasting booth. I know this is cheating..when you think of DIY, you don’t think of street rod blasting booths to paint your pieces in. But we did it, and it turned out great!

Green complete!! Now time for more sanding, and more taping! Time to paint the grey!

Thank you to my husband for helping me out! Especially at the shop, where our 3.5 yr old suddenly had a “mommy only” rule for at least 2 hours!! Once the paint dried, I was so happy to see the final product!!
The paint combo made me happy, and now to fill it up and style it! I LOVE a modern bar with glasses sitting out, and a display of liquor. However, we have a small child. A very “active” small child. SO in time, we will switch it over. In the mean time, I filled the inside with our Liquor  but styled the top with meaningful pieces. I layered pictures (A photo of Chelsea Market that I took while living in New York, 2 paintings that I did, and  photo booth pics that Grant and I had taken in San Fransisco, our very first trip away from Liam). Take a look!!

SO there it is!! My first spring project of 2013!! Now its your turn!! Please link up! Im dying to see what you have been up to!!

Omg! I have that same cabinet from Ikea, I got a long time ago. You have inspired me to turn it into a bar. I can’t seem to find a bar cart I like, so now I know what to do. Thanks for sharing! I’m so geek end right now!!!!
