Mommy Post~My baby and the Flu

April 8, 2011 Leave a Comment

Since I typically write about all things design, I have decided that every once in a while, I am going to throw in a “Mommy Post” since Liam ( my almost 21 month old son) is by far, the greatest design I have ever been a part of creating, although he was also the hardest “design” to create..more on our fertility success at a later time 🙂

So,  this post is to share the trials and tribulations of dealing, for the first time mind you, with a toddler who has the flu, while his daddy is away on a business trip to Spain. ( insert un-washed hair, baggy purple circled eyes, and sweatpants that have throw up on them)

SO the day started out just fine..Liam didn’t eat much for Breakfast, but I know he gets cereal at Daycare ( he goes to a Home Daycare 3 days a week) so I didn’t think it was a big deal, he was acting completely normal. In the midst of preparing for a client meeting I have on Tuesday, I received a phone call from Daycare saying he was covered in puke when he woke up from nap ( insert panic, tears and the words, GRANTS IN SPAIN..hahaha  I never quite know how I will deal with any given situation)
I picked him up, and in the 4 minute ride from daycare to home, he threw up again, and 6 more times that night before bed…..you may be thinking, why is she telling us about her puking toddler?? well, the point…here are a few things that helped me, and him, get through our first bout with the flu, and I wanted to share!!!

First up…make sure you have a large supply of Pedialyte pops on hand if you babe is a sickie! We typically try to give Liam organic, but this is for sure, one commercial product I completely endorse! Liam would not eat a thing, and I didn’t want him to, he also wouldn’t drink anything, the only thing he would consider, ICE POPS!! I was happy to know that he was re-gaining electrolytes as he was sucking away.

I have to say,  the worst thing that happened through out this whole flu ordeal ,was when Liam’s precious “JoJo” was thrown up on 2 times..that means during Liam’s sickest, his best friend, was in the washer, then the dryer, not fun!

Luckily, Grants mom had suggested to me, putting him in a pillowcase to wash and dry him, and it worked perfectly! I had used Dryell sheets before, which really didn’t work ( this was pre- sickness just for a gross JoJo, not a puked on JoJo) I was so happy when I pulled JoJo out and all his limbs were attached 🙂

A few more things that helped up get through…

Mrs.Meyers laundry detergent

BabyGanics Stain Remover

Our temporal thermometer and Little Fevers
SO, bottom line, like all other scary situations ( and yes, I know the Flu rates at the bottom of the mommy list for scary, but when your baby is now throwing up like a little kid, and your husband is working in Spain, and your family is everywhere but close by, its a little scary) We made it though 🙂 Thank you to our friends here in NY who were such a great support! G is home tomorrow and L is feeling back to normal!! now, mama just needs a little time to herself!! Have a great Friday!!
PS PLEASE share ANY AND ALL solutions, ideas, medicines that help your baby get through the flu!!
Another PS UPDATE: 2 days after writing this post..I was ALSO stricken with the nasty flu!! SO AWFUL!!!
