Brush Hill House: Island Search!

July 1, 2013 Leave a Comment

When I began working with my Brush Hill Rd Client, one of the first things we spoke about was her Kitchen…She was using a small metal cart as her “island” and it just wasn’t cuttin it!! She loves to bake, and was missing a place to  roll, knead, and create!! So the search began. We wanted to find something with character, not your typical big box store solution. We threw around words like Rustic, Unique, Storage, Industrial, and Vintage but  functional. We kept searching! at one point, we had considered using 2 bookshelves backed up against eacother, with butcher block on top…we thought…and measured…and decided that it wasn’t the best option.  Fast forward to last Wednesday….We took the morning to SHOP! (have I mentioned how grateful I am that I LOVE my job!) Our intentions: FIND AN ISLAND !!
( along with lighting and hardware). There is an area in Nashville called  “Antique Row”, and its amazing!! store after store of antiques !

We started at The Preservation Station. I was BLOWN.AWAY at the selection of antique goodies!! Here is  A glimpse of what we saw there….

This was a First option for the island…it has shelving underneath for storage, but the length was a tad too long, and the top would have had to be replaced/covered…we took a mental note and a picture, and moved on..

We didn’t see many options for Islands, and they were low on knobs for the Kitchen, so they suggested going down the street to The Cane-ery. ( LOVE when stores recommend other stores..it makes me want to buy from them even more! Well done The Preservation Station!)
So to the Cane-ery we went!!
They had a lot more island options..and here are a few we considered, we decided against each one, mostly due to size!

LOVED this one, but was a tad too big and over budget!

This one was a definite consideration! it was the right size, and price, but would need to be modified a bit..We DID find hardware here though and I didnt take a photo!! I will snap a pic next meeting, but they had a great selection and good prices!
We moved on, and actually, my client suggested trying out a modern store next door called
 “Classic Modern”
This store has so many treasures!!  So worth a trip!

We were Seriously considering this next one, and even talked about putting a deposit on it…isnt it beautiful!!!!
We loved it ( and I still do) perfect color, great top, nice mix of rustic and industrial..BUT, we would have had to modify it for height, which was totally do-able..but then..we walked further back, and my client knew right away..

SHE FOUND IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yippeeeeee!!! the perfect size, height/top/storage/towel bar/Price and not to mention the top comes off and under it is all storage!! SO HAPPY!!! nothing better as a designer, than to check A biggie off your to do list, not to mention, having a happy Client, and a GREAT new source for all things AWESOME 😉

NOW, onto Lighting!!..
Happy Monday!!
